I've had one since last year. Small, only 35 watts or so, but it has 3 channels, and a mic input, plus it has a cool handle! Slipry1 liked it enough that he got one and Tiko said that he was going to get one soon. I have a passive pickup on my Martin, so I use a Fishman pre-amp with mine, but for a small gig, it's great!

After playing a gig using thumbs', I got one, too. I use my Boss Fender Deluxe Reverb pedal with it (thanks again, Alan Akaka), which I use as a direct box because the cube has no reverb and the pedal has a good eq. What is cool about these things is that they are mini-PA's. You can gang 2 of them together and have a 6 channel system - 4 instruments and 2 mikes. Just put 'em on mike stands, set the levels, and there you are. |

I have an Acoustic Image amplifier that is pretty good. something like 400 watts w/2 combination 1/4"/xlr w/ phantom power mics inputs, DI out and decent reverb/delays and weighs under 25lbs.
The other day was the first time I used it out of the house. Had my guitar in one channel and Terry (ukulele911 on youtube) on the other and it sounded pretty good. Cranked up i think it would be plenty loud for most gigs.

I got an Acoustic AB50, 50 watt version. Here's how I got it (an interesting tale about sound system horrors). Thumbs & me get one gig playing for a hulau down south of Tacoma. We are assured that there is a "state of the art" sound system, so all we nedd is direct boxes. We get there early and look around at the setup. It's a new, BIG, hall with a stage at one end with no sound system set up. There are 2 wireless mikes connected to a flashy AV system inside a closet WAYYYY over on the other side of the room, and nobody who can help us. So, Thumbs & I hop in the car and zoom up to a Guitar Center in Tacoma to get me a Roland Cube Monitor (see above), but they no got. We explained our plight to the manager, who sold us the Acoustic at his cost ($200). It worked great. We just backed up one of the wireless mikes to the amp, and we both played out of it. Moral - ALWAYS bring along amplification, leave 'em in da cah if all's ok. It's really nice, tho, to not have to lug an amp around. |
