Some interesting articles in this month's edition:
1. Hawaiian Festival to Bring Aloha to Seattle 2. New NY Hui advocates for Hawaiians 3. A very nice interview with Haunani Apoliona re: Akaka Bill 4. Raising kanaka maoli keiki and a great poem - what do we teach our children
5. Looking for volunteers for Island Burial Council to be appoined to the commission to help in the care, management and protection of unmarked ancestral Naive Hawaiian burial rights. They are looking for folks to represent: Kohala, Kona, Ka`u, Hilo & Hamakua on the Big Island; Lahaina, Wailuku, Makawao & Hana on the Island of Maui; the Island of Lana`i; West Moloka`i, Central Moloka`i, East Moloka`i & Kalawao on the Island of Moloka`i; Wai`anae, Ewa, Kona, Ko`olaupoko, Ko`olauloa & Waialua on O`ahu and Waimea, Koloa, Lihu'e, Kawaihau, Hanalei & Na Pali on Kaua`i & Ni`ihau.
But here is one other interesting piece of knowledge from this newsletter. Every month there are reviews of newly released recordings. This month there are reviews of Ho`ola i ka Poli by Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewett; He Nani by Tia Carrere & Daniel Ho; Aloha Pumehana by Darlene Ahuna; Kani Wai by George Kahumoku, Jr. & Bob Brozman and last but not least, Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Vol. 2 Live From Maui. Every one of those recordiings is released by Daniel Ho Creations. Hmmmm.

The article, by Festival Director Angela Manke, also mentions the artists who will be performing at the festival, including the two ensembles I'm playing with (which also includes noeau).

Well, all five of them were released simultaneously, in one package. I'll be featuring tracks from them on the radio shows this weekend, in fact, along with several new releases from Mountain Apple (Amy Hanaiali`i & Friends, Keli`i Kaneali`i, Mailani). |
