Aloha All -
Just a quick note to let you know the Aloha Camp's online store is now up and running, with T-shirts, hats, tote bags and more.
This year's design is by our dear friend Leilehua Yuen. Like all good Hawaiian stories, there's a kaona. You can read all about it at the store.

Looking forward to seeing you at Keauhou. Won't be long now! |

Awwww. I would love to be able to come - I know all the teachers from previous camps and they are great! Anyone who's ever thought of going could do a lot worse.
I'm currently planning and budgeting for February 2011 camp. I wish all the very best to everyone for the June camp, and hope it goes well. |

Is that a mandolin? I do believe I've also been in that selfsame hammock, and possibly also with a mandolin! How about that? |

Yes, the guy in the above photo is my friend Tom Rozum (http://www.tomrozum.com/) who comes to Kona every winter with his partner Laurie Lewis. They play at the Aloha Theatre. He plays the mandoline, the mandola, the ukulele, and was pretty good on my lap steel too... quite the musician! The picture just reminded me of some I have seen from Aloha Camp.
I am really looking forward to playing with everyone in June. Even though I live on the same island as John Keawe, I only run into him at Target or Costco, Dennis Lake and I really enjoy each other's company, but he lives an hour and a half away, so Camp is the best chance I have of spending quality time with him. I haven't seen Mark or Robyn for a year and a half. Keola lives across a channel, so I never run into him at Walmart, and somehow, I have really never EVER met Kevin Brown. And of course, you Trev, and the many, many campers that I have had the joy of meeting/playing with... Come on, June! |

I tho't that was Trev, too. But I'm not sure I've ever seen Trev with a tan.
I've a stupid idea-- next June let's try to get a picture of each camper in that hammock, with assorted instruments (or is that sordid instruments?? only if it's a banjo...or accordion...or viola.....or dulcimer....) & then run a "guess the famous feet contest."

Just a quick note: As of today, both sessions of Dennis Lake's Ukulele Building Class at the June Camp are full. We'll take signups for the waiting list.
OK, one more quick note: registrations are coming in at a nice clip.. so if you are planning on coming but have not yet signed up; don't miss out!!! Looks like it will be a great camp, with a nice mix of friends new and old.

Aloha All -
I just heard from Kumu Kapono`ai Molitau that he will be teaching a very special pair of workshops at this June's Aloha Camp. Participants in his oli classes will build an ipu heke and learn to chant using this instrument.
Those lucky folks who participated in his Puniu class on Molokai knoiw what an extraordinary opportunity this is.
Here are some details from Kumu Kapono`ai:
Total cost of all materials is: $150.00 This will include everything you need to build a Medium Size Ipu Heke
Space is limited to 15 Students per class (2 class max) Students will learn how to chant using this instrument. Instrument and Oli class will take the entire week to prepare for. Students that are taking Oli class will need to create Ipu Heke so they can participate in the chant class.
I'll get a webpage up ASAP with payment and registration details; in the meantime you can e-mail me to hold a spot.
Looking forward to seeing you soon! |

The signup page for Kumu Kapono`ai's class is now up and running on the camp website.

And I have posted a daily schedule of classes, too.
