You Tube – week of September 27, 2009

Woo-hoo. Its end of the month. Time to get the next pension check . That’s one thing about being retired – get only one check per month at the beginning of the month. Gotta stretch it out to last the whole month. Me and Unko Paul went for dim sum on Saturday. I ate bad and I gotta go cardiologist today. He probably goin’ know I had char siu bao. Well, I gotta prepare to get yelled at. But I just read somewhere that jasmine tea is very good for your heart.

Some good videos this week. I was happy to see Terry on the You Tube. The neat thing about you guys putting videos on You Tube is that I can show you off to my friends and family and they can see who are the guys we talk about all the time.

And without further ado,

Our PHM Braddah, Terry Brown (ukulele911) and Unko Bill playing such a sweet version of “Ku`u Ipo I ka He`e Pue One”. This one can make me cry every time. So very poignant.

And here is Terry and Unko Bill going make you guys away from da `aina get waimaka. Listen to Honolulu City Lights.

And here is Derek singing “Ala Pikake”. I absolutely love the sound of the 12 strong and next to Paul, Derek is my favorite 12 string player. Check out the guitar! Derek gots plenty toys. But Derek, you don’t gotta tell us about your boo-boos. We would never know you had to dub it. Seamless my friend. Seamless.

Palani Vaughan – Ka Mamakakaua I love this one. I only heard it before on Makaha Sons of Ni`ihau Live at Hank’s Place. I need to listen to more Palani Vaughan stuff.

Here is Dennis Pavao singing “Ipo Lei Manu”, a song which never fails to get me misty eyed. But when Dennis sings it, oh my oh my oh my.

Ka`au Crater Boys – He `Ono. Can listen to Troy Fernandez with some mighty fine `ukulele pickin’. Don’t forget the chili pepa waddah.

Here is an extremely lovely version of Ola`a Beauty by Na Palapalai.. They have a new CD coming out November 3. I have been told by Kihei de Silva that when trying to ensure songs you learn are correct as to `olelo, that Na Palapalai are excellent to rely on the language.

Here is a nice piece on John Keawe from Big Island TV. He has been married to Hope as long as I have been married to Unko Paul. I guess we all are old futs. John plays such nice nahenahe music.

Nick Borho from Big Island playing a medley of Little Grass Shack and Pua Tuberose.

Here is our friend from Tokyo, Shuji, playing Hula Medley and giving the respect and honor to Ozzie. Boy, doesn’t it sound nice?

More Big Island music from Bunny & Paul. Sounds really nice.

Hi`ilawe danced by Kumu Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewitt, played and sung by Daniel Ho. I wonder what tuning he used?

From Kaaeamoku. We haven’t seen one of his vids in a long while, but here is his DAUGHTER continuing the tradition. I think she did well.

I wish I had the 'vocalist'. Would probably sound better but alas, all the vocals are mine just multi-tracked it. The toys she probably talking about are my guitars. That video I was playing my Adamas when I usually use my Taylor.
