HONOLULU: DECEMBER 7, 2009 — Honolulu & Los Angeles-based slack key guitar virtuoso, Makana is en route to Washington DC to perform at a holiday reception hosted by the First Family at the White House. The 800 invited guests include friends, diplomats, and White House staff.
Picture this: Gregg frantically trying to explain to the Secret Service agents that he found some keys in the parking lot . . . and as the finder it's his kuleana not only to get into the event, but also to get on stage with Makana to make an announcement about the keys . . .
. . . and maybe back him up on bass . . .
. . . and possibly dance . . .
. . . but definitely to get the keys back to the rightful owner.
at around 8pm DC time, Makana wrote on Facebook: "just met Mr President & Mrs Obama. He said, "Alright! Someone from Hawai'i! Where are you from?" I said "Pearl City, Mr President. Mahalo for having me." We then took pictures of the 3 of us throwing shakas! Mahalo to everyone who brought me to this special moment. I'll begin performing in about an hour. I feel peace."
