The opening chant on live cut of "No Ke Ano Ahiahi" as performed by Dennis Kamakahi,( live on Maui slack key vol. 2...), does anyone have the words to the opening chant...I can get most--CLOSE, but I do tend to end up with a few messed up, meaningless silly- bulls, when buying by the syllable. So far, I hear...(forgive my French)... sounds like...
Ho Nalu Ina Huki mai, ka heno ma Hou makau kau O holo Aku
But probably some non-words in this translation... and, what would I be proclaming?

according to friends in taro places...you deserve credit, if you wish it??? and if anyone else is looking, lurking, interested, but shy...it seems anytime I silently withheld a question or observation in a class, someone else often states the same thing, as I hold my "dumb" questions in quiet.
quote:
The first line starts, "He nalu" (a wave) The second line starts, "E huki mai" (Pull!) I can't make out for sure the second part of either line. I *can* determine for sure that the last two lines are: E ho'omakaukau [Get ready!] E holo aku [Sail out!]

I could have sworn that someone asked this same question about two years ago, I listened to the audio and transcribed it. But I searched the site and couldn't find it. Maybe it's somewhere else. I'll try to listen again. |
