This week on Pakele Live! with Tony Solis we’re hosting a CD release party for Brittni Paiva, with special guests One Right Turn, Kalei Gamiao, and more!
Brittni is primarily known for her expertise playing the ‘ukulele, although she’s actually proficient on a number of instruments. At age 15, she self-produced her debut album Brittni x 3, which won a 2005 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for Most Promising Artist. The entire album was Brittni - the album’s title refers to the fact that she played `ukulele, slack key guitar and bass. (She also plays piano and drums, but not on this album.) She followed up in 2006 with Hear and in 2007 with Brittni, both of which won for `Ukulele Album of the Year at the Hawaii Music Awards and were nominated for two Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards each.
At Pakele Live! she will be celebrating the release of her fourth CD, Four Strings: The Fire Within, on which she shares co-production credits with Charles Michael Brotman, Hawaii’s first Grammy Award winner.
Regular Pakele Live! viewers will remember ‘ukulele sensation Kalei Gamiao from prior appearances on the show – his debut album Contemporary ‘Ukulele Instrumental was nominated for a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award. One Right Turn has also appeared on the Pakele Live! stage. Its members are well-known in Hawai’i: Imua Garza (Opihi Pickers), Tiffa Cruz Garza (The Girlas) and Connie Cruz (The Girlas)!
PLEASE NOTE! We have some special things in store this week – including your chance to win a free ‘ukulele courtesy of KoAloha!
Join host Tony Solis for Pakele Live! this Thursday, January 14, from 6-8 p.m. HST in the Pakele Lounge at the Ala Moana Hotel (410 Atkinson Dr., Honolulu). Although admission is free, your purchase of two drinks or soft drinks will help ensure the continuation of the Pakele Live! concert series. All ages are welcome, and free parking is available next door at Ala Moana Shopping Center.
