We really enjoyed getting to know Norton and his wife Lisa at George's workshop in 2008, and were very saddened by his passing. So I bought tickets for Friday's concert to support his family, but I know absolutely nothing about the parking situation there. Can anyone who has been at the Fox in Oakland gives me some insight?
I did reserve a hotel room at the Hilton Waterfront, not too far away from the Fox. Should I get to the hotel early and grab a cab?
Thanks, Julie

Howzit Julie,
Hope to see you and Larry there tomorrow. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the parking situation other than what's posted on the Fox Theater's site: http://www.thefoxoakland.com/calendar.php (see "Getting There")-- Parking Lots near the Fox Theater:
18th and San Pablo – directly behind theater 20th and Telegraph – 1 block away 17th and Broadway – 2 blocks 19th and Franklin – 2 blocks 21st and Broadway – 3 blocks Grand and Valley – 3 blocks Webster and 19th – 3 blocks 20th and Webster – 4 blocks Webster and 17th – 4 blocks 19th and Harrison – 4 blocks
*please check operating hours of lots before parking
Whatever you do, don't park your big RV on the street in downtown Oakland!
I'm catching a ride from S.F. with Ray. He heard that the concert may run till midnight or later (5+ hours). It's going to be an awesome jam and wonderful tribute to Norton.
Aloha, Doug

Doug, thanks for the parking info (more about that at the end of this post)
This concert was so phenomenal and so LOUD! Seems the sound guys are fans of micing the bass drums and turning up the woofers! It started out with 4 men that Norton used to play with while he lived in Marin. Then Bonnie Raitt made an appearance. Sheesh, I don't remember all the iterations, but throughout the concert Bonnie, Charlie Musselwhite, Elvin Bishop, George Thorogood, and Roy Rogers, among others, made appearances.
Next up were the Doobie Brothers, always good entertainment, then the Steve Miller Band. During Steve's set, which lasted until after midnight, he and an unbelievable harp/violin/etc player put on a version of what I remember was named "Nature Boy" (There was a boy, a very young enchanted boy...) that brought tears to my eyes.
The concert started at 7, we left around 12:15. I originally planned on taking a shuttle from the Hotel and getting a ride back via taxi. Oh no, Mr. Julie wanted to drive, and so we parked and wandered around in the dark until we found the Theatre, then ended up wandering around some more dark in the freezing Oakland winds at 12:30 AM, passing groups of folks sittin' on the sidewalk, avoiding dark alleys with sinister characters lurking. Then it turned out there were no venues anywhere to get a bite to eat. We ended up huddling in our Hotel room microwaving Noodle cups.
OK, so much for glamour. But I would do it again for the experience. I mean, how often do you get to see these folks on the same stage. We just really missed Norton and his goofy grin...
Doug, I looked for you. So many people, though. Did you notice how many grey heads there were. Aha, we may be old but we're not DEAD! Roak and Roll!
