Well, Dukie, I guess, too, with Bla playing Waimanalo Blues...was not slack key, but my goodness, it was so very good. But Bla can slack with the best of them (ha-ha, his own braddaz) when he wants to. I was looking, too, to see if I could spock you or Jay. But I thought maybe you guys probably wasn't boloheads back then and I wouldn't even know what you look like back then, and the girls would be little and Kini would have been even more beauitful back then, probably. But in these two Slack Key Festivals that we have watched from these videos, only a few songs were non-slack key. Only a few. And choke more people than when we went. And looks like they went all the way until dark time, too.
Dukie - where is McCoy Pavilion? Is it at the University? I wondered about where it ws because Bla was singing at the end of Waimanalo Blues, ..."singing Papakolea blues, and also Nanakuli, too."
let me try this again... how you doin' Wanda? tis I... the one who's putting a lei on Aunty Honey's picture one mother's day... Anyway, that was the older days when the slack key festival was held at Mccoy Pavilion. Over time it had to be moved to accomodate more people. When it started, it was known as the Atta Isaacs Slack Key Festival. The following year it was changed to include Gabby. Then as we fast forward a little, it had taken on the sponsor's name ie. The Bank of Hawaii Slack Key Festival and so on and so forth. Yes, there were times when some artists weren't playing slack key. But good music anyway. Any reason to boycott? Probably not... Well, due to sponsors and economic times, won't have to worry bout that... the concert has been on hold. No concert on Oahu in '09. The one on Maui was lucky to get off. You gotta give Milton a lot of credit. One man show trying to do something he feels very strongly about. Perpetuating the art...

But one memory I will always have is one time at Honey's you sang "Lei Nani" for me. And I think you asked if Cleveland was near Oklahoma City or something like that. |

Speaking of our favorite O`ahu firefighter, the photo of Ocean when he had cleaned the face of the Kamehameha statue prior to the annual drapinng, and was giving it a traditional Polynesian blessing, still brings a lump to my throat. The photo ran in Honolulu newspapers... |
