Hui! Auntie! Mebbe you bought chinese kalo. They cook 'em like potatoes in stew type dishes. Main ting da bugga wen taste ono! Eh! Unko! No need cook full pot rice brah! Myth Busted! If you like make local style rice, add half extra volume of water per cup of rice. Example: Five (5) cup rice cooker. If you like 3 cups rice, add 3 cups dried rice to pot. Inside da pot get water lines marked per cup of rice being cooked. Add water to da level in between da 3 and 4 cup mark. Whatever maximum cup your pot is, ALWAYS cook one cup less than the max, due to the rice absorbing more water and expanding more. Believe me, I learned da hard way! Malama pono! |

Yep, I did buy Chinese kalo. Menpachi Man wen tell me it was the wrong kine kalo for poi. He said is too slimy. It was indeed kinda gummy and stringy when I stay chrai pound da buggah. But yeah, was ono. We shared with the folks at the halau and they said they liked it better than the stuff we had at the ho`ike this year, but was hotel food and was made from dried or instant taro or something like that. Was very, very runny also, too.
I'm thinking' pake kalo mobettah than none. Now if I can find luau leaves, ummmm, can make chicken luau. Hmmm, though, how I going get around the coconut problem. Not allowed coconut, too much potassium for my bad kidneys. Oh well, a girl can dream, can't she.
Once again, welcome to the 'Patch and thanks for coming to talk story. |
