All you Goodall, and other, folks.
I just bought, online with a 48 hour approval, a Goodall KGCC which will arrive on Fri. (Engelmann Spruce top)
Anything in particular I should look for as part of my assessment (other than the obvious tone and playability ratings)?

I'm a little nervous spending that kind of money sight unseen so any help would be appreciated.

Dave

Congrats on your purchase. I have played some beautiful Goodalls so definitely have Goodall envy.

I'd check for cracks, damage and make sure that the neck is straight. Then, fretwear and intonation. You might take it to your favorite guitar tech for a professional opinion. Finally, how does it sound and play?

Andy

Hi Dave,
Congrats on your new toy. Like Andy said; Just check for obvious damage and/or have it checked by your favorite guitar tech. I bought a Goodall RGCC (Engleman and rosewood) on ebay some time back and and have been very happy with it. Just press and enjoy. Jerry

Lot's of Goodall envy here. Make sure to play it up high and listen for buzz from fret wear or humidity issues. They are such beautiful, well made instruments, I doubt there's anything to worry about other than obvious structural damage. If your seller has a high rating on Ebay it's probably OK. I've played many a Goodall, and they rank among my next spoiled little boy purchases. They have that elusive "shimmer" all us 'tuner twisters' value. String it up, slack it down and enjoy!

all great suggestions, thanks.
I bought it from a dealer, not on ebay. They sell a lot of guitars so I am only a little nervous about that.
Bad time of year to ship these things but it came air in less than 24 hours so should be fine.
If you want to practice patience, buy a guitar like this and then receive it with the instructions...."wait 20 hours to open the shipping box, then wait 2 more hours to open the inner packaging, then wait 2 more hours to open the case......"
I may need a sedative before the evening is over since the box is now sitting in my living room calling to me.

A Goodall on American Idol? American Idol contestant Andrew Garcia is playing a Paula Abdul song on what looks like a Goodall (about :40 into the segment; what model is it? Pretty cool arrangement): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5V0iKkfuuA&feature=related .

The Goodall is a TrD, Traditional Dreadnaught. Rosewood back and sides/Adirondack spruce top. Goodalls are made with a double "X" brace. On the Traditional models, the lower "X" is scalloped. Waverly tuners. Great guitars!

perhaps irrelevant since this is old.
I got my KRCC on Ebay. It was a custom build, with Koa back, Englemann top, and what my tech called the best neck he's ever seen on a guitar. It has a light bracing, so I called Goodall back when I got it...he said no "regular gauge" strings, only light, unless I had a set slack tuning where some strings could be fattened up.

but it sounds great--after I had my saddle redone/reset for intonation.
One of the tech's who'd worked on it AFTER it left Goodall's place, had redone it, it also had a split in middle, and the intonation compensation of each string was not done correctly by the West Coast tech...maybe a pickup or some other work...
anyway, it was corrected and it's been playing great for 7 years.

I could use a heavier gauge in a slack tuning...IF I stayed in one tuning, where the strings I could beef up were always the same--but since I'm a nomad and wander constantly between tunings, I stay with light gauge strings.
