April 9th, 2010 in Santa Cruz, California at The Santa Cruz Surfing Museum, Lighthouse Point. A day to honor the Three Hawaiian Princes, David Kawananakoa, Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana'ole and Edward Kelliahonui who introduced surfing to North America in Santa Cruz in July of 1885. With remarks by noted Santa Cruz historian Geoffrey Dunn, a proclamation by Santa Cruz Mayor Mike Rotkin and a beautiful Oli Aloha and Oli Ali'i by Kalae Miles the unveiling of a plaque to honor "The Three Hawaiian Princes" took place. Also attending was Hawaiian Princess Kapiolani Kawanakoa, The Marchesa Marignoli who is the granddaughter of David Kawananakoa. Hawaiian author Kristin Zambucka who conceived and designed the plaque was also in attendance.
