Announcing He Huaka‘i E Pana Na I Ke Ea Waipio Valley, Kohala and Miloli'i!
We will be holding our annual He Huakai E Pana Na I Ke Ea Waipio Valley workshop in Waipio Valley on May 6 & 7, 8 where we will learn Hi'ilawe below the namesake waterfall, We will be shooting a music video, and then participating in a Kanikapila, luau, talk story with the community on May 8th. Accommodations are limited so email me if you are interested in participating.

Next, will be our annual Kohala June 9,10, 11 This annual workshop will bring today’s kiho‘alu masters and their students on a retreat to the birthplace of their unique music style.
In the 1830's Kamehameha III invited the vaqueros of California (still part of Mexico) to come to Hawai`i to teach the Hawaiian men cowboy skills – riding horses to chase down cattle, roping, and making the tools of the trade. “Paniolo” was originally "Paniola" (pronounced pahn-nyo-la), the Hawaiianized version of “Espanola”, as the Spanish cowboys described themselves. These Spanish vaqueros also taught the Hawaiian cowboys how to relax by singing and playing the guitar
And finally in December 10,11,12 we return to Miloli'i for our final destination for the year. We are joined by Dianna Aki for a wonderful visit to this remote community.
Individual sessions will be held on site at various Mele wai pana featured in the songs selected. Community practitioners, musicians, and historians will provide context for the workshops while instructors teach their individual styles.
