Aloha! There are one or two spots available this Sunday for a slack key workshop with Lehua and Chuck at my home in Manhattan Beach. Both have been helping at Led's workshops in Waikiki. (Lehua is Led's older sister and has been seen locally performing with him at the SoCal Slack Key festival). Open to anyone who is familiar with and can play a bit of slack key.

Glad you enjoyed the clips, can you imagine how much fun I had?? We played constantly the whole weekend.
I hope to get back to the southland some time this summer, you know I'll be calling, Nancy. I'm guessing the event turned out to be a ton of fun, eh?

Thank you all for coming! It was a lot of fun. It's neat to have the workshops here. Each kumu/artist teaches us so much and it's not just about the music, but styles and aloha and 'ohana. Lehua especially emphasized playing from the heart and not trying to "sound just like Led" or anyone else. She put out a magical slack key album about 15yrs ago and it's no longer available, but will be re-released in the near future. Although she doesn't sing on it, her playing is beautiful. You will recognize some songs you've heard Led do, and you may recognize them as Ka'apana music, but they will be Lehua's own - straight from her heart. She's moved up to the Las Vegas area but I'm hoping she'll be back to join us. Chuck and his family still live close by and she's promised Led to come play with him here. And as always, we picked up a few new folks who play ki ho'alu very nicely; and they're very nice!! Aloha and mahalo, n |
