First event was a smashing success! Kick-off party was standing-room only, with plenty of free ono-licious pupu (including a prime rib station...deeeee-lish!) and no-host bar. Great entertainment featuring just about every genre of music from the islands. Amy Hanaiali`i (backed by Steve Jones, Chino Montero, and others), Ernie Cruz Jr., Jake Shimabukuro, Friends of Adam, B.E.T., Kalapana, Pali, and more). The audience was a broad spectrum...lots of fans, plus folks from various aspects of the music industry (radio, musicians, engineers, etc.). Governor Lingle stopped by, as did Mayor (and now candidate for governor) Mufi Hannemann (sp??). If this event was a indicator of things to come, this weekend is gonna be a blast. Today it's workshops, tomorrow is workshops and the annual Lifetime Achievement Awards luncheon, and Sunday evening is the grand finale -- Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. All of this is happening at the Hawai`i Convention Center...stunning venue. A hui hou!

Workshop day is almost pau...great turn out, with lots of island musicians (and their fans!) attending the various offerings. Lunch was an island music fans heaven...grab your bento (or whatever) from the food vendor, and sit down and chat with Raiatea Helm or John Cruz or Mailani Makainai or Jake Shimabukuro or...

Hope the workshop idea is repeated next year!
