Cindy Combs and Stephen Inglis, recording artists from Hawaii, will be conducting Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar workshops and have concert appearances scheduled in the bay areas this August. They will perform on August 11th at Don Quixote's in Felton and on August 12th at Freight & Salvage in Berkeley. Workshops will be held at the Louden Nelson Community Center in Santa Cruz on August 10th and at Freight & Salvage in Berkeley on August 13th.
Stephen Inglis is recognized as one of the most diverse musical artists in Hawaii today. Equally at home on the acoustic and electric guitar, the art Hawaiian Slack key Guitar} has been at the heart of his music in recent years. Stephen has recorded five albums and has had is music featured in film and television with Hawaii NBC affiliate KHON’s special “Hawaii’s St. Damien: a journey of sacrifice” among recent projects. Stephen’s composition Redwood Slack Key was featured on the Grammy Nominated album “Hawaiian Slack Key Kings volume 2”
Combs is the only female player on the planet to have a full length solo Slack Key Guitar instrumental recording. Hers is titled “Sunny Rain' and was produced by herself and George Winston for Dancing Cat Records. Other recordings by Combs include 'Land of the Endless Summer' produced by Berry Andelin, 'Slack Key Lady', produced by George Winston, and a 'Cindy Combs – Talk Story' produced by KKCR Community Radio. She is an award winning song writer and adept at blending slack key with Hawaiian music as well as folk, jazz, and blues.
Their upcoming concert appearances mark the first time Combs and Inglis will combine forces to present an eclectic blend of musical genres with a hefty dose of Slack Key.
