This week’s guest on Pakele Live! with Tony Solis is Simplisity! Together for over 30 years, the band has six albums out and has won numerous awards, including Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, Hawai’i Music Awards, awards from both the Mayor and the Governor, People’s Choice awards, a Grammy nomination, and more.
The band (Andy Sexton, John Sexton, Mike Seda, Phillip Akau, Robert Standfield and former member Kenneth Gasper, who recently left to join Pearl Jam) has traveled around the world four or five times as both headliners and the opening act for bands such as Tower of Power, Sonny and Cher, War, the Coasters, Little Anthony, the Stylistics and more. Long popular in Hawai’i, they’re known for the variety of music they play, from island contemporary to jazz to Jawaiian (they’ve been called the fathers of Jawaiian music) and many other genres.
Join host Tony Solis for Pakele Live! on Thursday, August 19 from 6-8 p.m. HST in the Pakele Lounge at the Ala Moana Hotel (410 Atkinson Dr., Honolulu). There is no cover or minimum, although your purchase of two drinks or soft drinks helps ensure the continuation of the Pakele Live! concert series. (Note: Pakele Lounge does not serve food.) All ages are welcome, and free parking is available next door at Ala Moana Shopping Center.
