This week’s guest on Pakele Live! with Tony Solis is “Hawai’i’s Country Girl” Melveen Leed, who will be bringing along some of her friends to join in the fun. A singer, songwriter, musician, actress, vocal instructor, dancer and novelist (to name but a few of the many hats she wears), Melveen has performed the world over – in venues from Paris to Poland, New York to New Zealand, Russia to Rurutu – singing jazz, country, traditional and contemporary Hawaiian, and more.
Raised on the quiet island of Molokai, Melveen has found herself on stages with a number of notables, including Crystal Gayle, Charlie Pride, Dolly Parton, Vic Damone, and Nancy Wilson. Best known for her hit song “Paniolo Country,” she is a five-time winner in the Best Female Vocalist category at the Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards, as well as being the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award and awards for Album of the Year and Song of the Year. She’s also a Hawai’i Music Award winner, and has been honored in Tahiti, Japan, Bulgaria, St. Petersburg and Belgium.
She has served on Boards of Directors for numerous charities throughout Hawai’i, and has contributed entertainment for many more. As a musician, her talent extends to proficiency playing ‘ukulele, vibraharp, guitar, autoharp, piano, accordion, keyboard, clavietta, congo & bongo, harmonica, mandolin, and the Tahitian ‘ukulele.
Join host Tony Solis for Pakele Live! on Thursday, August 19 from 6-8 p.m. HST in the Pakele Lounge at the Ala Moana Hotel (410 Atkinson Dr., Honolulu). There is no cover or minimum, although your purchase of two drinks or soft drinks helps ensure the continuation of the Pakele Live! concert series. (Note: Pakele Lounge does not serve food.) All ages are welcome, and free parking is available next door at Ala Moana Shopping Center.
