Since you were asking for opinions, I always recommend against buy any Bose equipment, as well as anything from Monster. They are similar companies in their total disdain for the customer and their lack of decent design or quality of construction (And there is actual Engineering analysis and measurement to back up those conclusions). If you are going to spend the kind of money that Bose demands you can get much better equipment built by a better company.
I.M.H.O.
There are a couple of people who post here who actually like Bose stuff so they will have a differing opinion.

Here's a thread (http://www.taropatch.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9039) about amplification in general that you may want to peruse. Some of it gets into the Bose system, with a very strong discussion of pros and cons (WARNING: differences of opinion may occur). Don't let the heat scare you, keniki; just remember that people here really care about the music and how it sounds, so we can get a wee bit ... "passionate." |

As you will learn, the mere mention of "Bose" sends Lawrence into a Pavlovian response...
However, since you asked about set-up tips, feel free to ignore the advice not to purchase a system you already own.
I've used a number of different permutations of the L1 and L1 version two over the years, with and without the T1. I happen to think they are pretty dam' good for certain applications.
Heck, I'm seriously considering buying the mini-L1 this month while they are on sale, if only to see if my buddy Lawrence -- whom I happen to respect a great deal -- goes in to cardiac arrest. (Take a deep breath, Lawrence... S-l-o-o-o-ly count to ten. )
In order to give any meaningful suggestions to your query, the resident droids here at Taropatch Tech Support need a bit more info.
How are you using it?
What instruments? Voice?
Size of venue?
What, specifically are your concerns?
Like Retro says, don't worry about the somewhat passionate opinions you may read... wait until you see the "What is slack key?" thread. |

Keniki, I have seen and listened to Daniel Ho use it. It sounded great in the bookstore that he, Herb Ohta Jr, Keoki Kahumoku, Cyrhil Pahinui, and other used. I'm sure if you asked Daniel, he would give you pointers. Daniel has a very keen ear and pays particular attention to performance.

Don't worry, I am nowhere near Cardiac Arrest, in fact it gives me great joy to expound in great length and detail on how bad Bose stuff is. If you want I can post a 10,000 word essay starting now.
And of course my mention of how bad Bose is sends Mark into non-pavlovian response. (Pavlov's research was primarly about a response wherein an animal gets exited and drools about about an impending meal (positive event), not about impending stress or any danger of infarction).

If this was in Hawaii, it was George's L1 system, which I have many hours of experience with, and which Daniel would have been obliged to use as it would have been the only system at the event. If it was in L.A. area a few years ago it was probably also George's L1 which he brought with him.

Actually Daniel told me he was somehow able to purchase several systems at one time. I think they were the older L1 systems and were excess inventory.
The bookstore event was in Newport beach, CA around the same time as the 2008 Grammy Awards. Tia Carrerre was also there. It was a promotional event for several Grammy Nominees. |
