Well, hopefully! In any case, I think you all will find this very fun, informative and interesting! We were interviewing Jeff Peterson and Makana on the Hawaiian Concert guide this past Sunday as we lead up to the 2011 Southern California Slack Key Festival.
We talked about ALL kinds of things including Makana working with a bass player and percussionist, the making of Jeff's latest CD with Amy folks, how they were both influenced by Cyril Pahinui, Dennis Kamakahi, other teachers they studied under like Ray Kane and Sonny Chillingworth, exotic tunings, and so much more. Fascinating stuff!
It gets off to a little bit of a rough start with shaky Skype connections, but just skip ahead a little - I PROMISE you will enjoy it! http://www.hawaiianconcertguide.com/hawaiian-concert-guide-show-293-wala-au-with-makana-and-jeff-peterson

I didn't get a chance to listen from beginning to end, but I caught lots of great stuff. I will listen again when I am not at work. Thanks for doing the interview! |

That was a great interview! Some of the topics that have been so controversial here where tackled by Makana with ease. It was like a music/history class. |

Yeah, you can really tell how passionate they are about the whole thing, it really comes shining through with no pretense. Did you catch that little dig on me and Makana's "Korean" tuning? DAEFAE - funny! |

There was one thing about the interview that I did not like though. They seemed to be in a name dropping contest. Looking past that, it was the most interesting and informative interview I have heard to date. Now I feel I have something substantial to compare with other views on the subject(s).
To elude to another post concerning Hawaiian music, this is what I think "experts" (and professors) should be willing to to do--have the courage to give an opinion.
