I'm looking for the manufacturer of a particular music stand that folds well for transporting. The one I saw is all black metal, but the desk part has holes all across it (to make it lighter) and the desk itself folds down in half! I can find one with holes, but the desk part doesn't fold down. Anyone out there have the one that folds more completely?

Aloha Diana, Hope you and Jerry had a wonderful Holiday Season.
So check out Amazon.com for the Nilton Magic Folding Music Stand, itʻs pricey and Iʻve never seen one but looks interesting in how it folds. But also constructed of ABS plastic. The other one of interest is the Peak SMS-20 Black Tubular Music Stand. Stand is steel with polycarbonate desk that folds-up. One of the singers in the group has one and she likes it. I always read the reviews for more insight. Googling I came across the Hercules Folding Music Stand with Collapsable Desk -- 3 models -- at Hornsales.com Not sure how legs fold.
Hope this helps and hope to see you both soon at Cowtown kanikapila. |

Should I? Itʻs only $, and where Iʻm going itʻll burn or melt. |

I have a Hamilton similar to the New Era one here. It's a bit wobbly these days, but it is almost 40 years old, so I guess that isn't too hard to understand. I have a very similar new one I bought a few months ago, but there's no name on it. I'm sure the box had a name, but I can't recall what brand it was. Most music stores here carry this type. The top part comes off and folds, the legs fold upward, and the whole thing is very portable and light weight. If you order from online, the shipping may be more than the stand, so check local stores first. Unko Paul Well, duh! The "here" I meant above is here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?q=hamilton+music+stands&src=3WWRWXGB&ZYXSEM=0&gclid=CM6LlKe8nqYCFQl_5QodhFPHoA |

Retro should weigh in on this one. He has a nice, all-metal stand he got up in Canada. I'm not sure of the manufacturer, tho. |

I recently got a PEAK. It folds up pretty nice and the shelf slides out as an independent unit but it is about 2 inches wide so it holds 3 ring binders really well. Elderly has them and they are affordable. |

Wow, thanks for all the help. The Nilton Magic Folding Stand and the Peak SMS20 look to be about the same; the Nilton one is over $100. The reviews I had read on the Peak were not so good, saying it seems to fall apart as time goes on.... Jerry has the Hercules Stand, but it is really heavy. I already have a heavy stand, and two very light weight ones that fold up for travel, but don't hold heavy binders! So far the Hercules one is probably what I saw that someone else had and I mistakenly thought it would be lighter weight because of the holes in the "desk" part. So, guess I'll keep using my heavy one, unless I can find one made of unobtainium which would be very lightweight, right! |

Just looked at the Hamilton stand link, and the Apex Electronics BS-321. The desk on the Hamilton stand looks like it might be made of plastic that folds down, even though the description says "punched hole" construction....but the photo shows no holes in desk part of the stand.... go figure. And the description didn't say what the weight is. The Apex stand looke very promising; although it was not what I had in my mind's eye. But it folds and says it is "heavy duty" and weighs about 6 lbs. Looks sturdier than the lightweight ones I already have. That may untimately be my next stand. Thanks for all the help and the links. I had done lots of research, but never came across some of these. |

The Hercules stand I mentioned in my previous reply is not heavy at all maybe around 4 lbs and is pretty sturdy. |

If you consider 5-6 pounds as "light" then maybe 6.39 pounds is not too much and you can get the best stand I know of: The K&M 10800 (stainless steel @ 6.39 pounds). If that unit is too pricey, then the 10810 (regular steel same weight), might do well and is what I have.
(These are not cheap but you did not specify cost as an issue)
That Nilton Magic Folding Music Stand (that GUke mentioned) looks very promising too and about half the weight of the K&M. There are lots of times where I wished that I had an extra shelf for accessories!
