Happy New Year to you all. Auntie is a bit late today. I am a victim on another yucky head cold that makes me more dizzy-headed than usual.

But no mattah, start off your year right by enjoying some fine music this afternoon.

Not quite YouTube, but Yfrog (does this link work, or do you have to be on Twitter to access it?) ---

Seattle `Ukulele Players Association doing "Ulupalakua" 1/9/11 (at one end of the room you'll see noeau, at the other end, baritone can briefly be seen; I'm playing the fretless Kala U-Bass)

Wow - some big `ukulele association. Over here we get me, Paul and three other folk from our halau. Good to see you guys! How you like that little bass? One guy who lives about 60 miles south of us plays one and it sounds great, I think.

We get about 50 people to gather each month, and we've been going for seven years now. I taught the group "Ulupalakua" for a performance at the Northwest Folklife Festival a few years ago.

The more I play the bass, the more I like it - but also the more I understand its limitations. It's the right instrument for a group like this (or the shows I do with noeau), but there are other gigs where I prefer the full bass guitar.
