If you are looking for the songs that people are singing and playing today, look no further that He Mele Aloha (aka "The Blue Book" or The Costco Book").

It is available a bunch of places including Longs and Costco in Hawaii, and online, too.

No melody lines, just words and chords. But the melodies are all available online as midi files, which is even better cause you can hear them. (Anyone got a link???).

If you are looking for old, classic stuff, check out Centerstream Publishing, who have reprinted a couple of the Charles King songbooks from the early 20th Century.

Have fun.

Scott,

All three volumes of the Hawaiian Style 'Ukulele books are well written and have lots of good instructional materials if you're learning to play. He Mele Aloha is also a great source of tunes if you already know how to play. Good luck!

Here ya go, Mark!

http://www.mondoymusic.com/MM_Mele/

If you look around the net, there are programs that will convert MIDI to mp3.
Then you can listen to them on your ipod or whatever...

Daniel Ho and Herb Ohta Jr's books "Discovering the 'Ukulele" and "Exploring the 'Ukulele" are both execellent. Also these books published by Uketree are very good as well. Hawaiian Style Ukulele Volumes 1-3.

Wowser, Konabob! I'm glad I looked at the uke page this morning. I have Finale, a music composition program, btw, that reads midi files. I'll have to fire it up and see if it displays them. See you on Saturday!
