John Ioane Keanaaina has a lovely new slack key and vocal CD that he has just released called "Na Mele O Ioane Keanaaina". It has 8 songs on it all of which John wrote himself, music and all lyrics in Hawaiian. I have really enjoyed listening to it. I've also played some tracks from it on the radio.

It is so nahenahe and soothing to listen to. I guarantee you will not have any road rage if you pop this one into your car's CD player as you drive. The only problem is you might get so caught up in the music that you might just miss your turn. That actually happened to me.

In an information sheet that John included with my copy he says;

"I recorded these songs in an unplugged way with all guitars and vocals recorded through a series of acoustic microphones. What I wanted to convey to the listener was that when you played the CD the feeling would be of an individual sitting in you living room entertaining you with original music rather than the concept of a band or orchestra."

Here is a youtube video of John doing one of the songs on the CD.

The CD is availiable on iTunes, CDBaby, Digstation, Rhapsody, etc.

John also gave me his permission to include his address. John said that the CD would be $ 10.00 if you purchase it directly from him. Hey, why don't you send him an extra buck to help with the postage?

Those that love Hawaiian Music will love this CD!!

This is indeed a wonderful CD. John has such a beautiful way with ki ho`alu, and he shares his tunings with you as indicated on the CD. The poetry of his mele is so beautiful making his songs give a real glimpse into his life.

You know we have featured John's You Tube videos on here as he put them up. We were all so lucky to be able to hear the music of this CD pure and simple, just John and his guitar, as he made the videos and put them on You Tube. Ah, but when you hear this CD, what I thought was so good on You Tube is now made even better.

Go. Buy. Several.

John is indeed a wonderful man, and the CD is worthy of any of our collections. I met John as I was leaving Kona a couple of weeks ago after Aloha Music Camp. We sat next to each other on the plane to Honolulu and had a wonderful time chatting about music, the changing landscape of the islands, cable tv and language. He told me about the CD, and I made a mental note to pick it up as soon as I arrived back home.

As we were parting in the Honolulu airport, John gave me a copy of the CD. This was such a generous gift and I have been listening to it at work every day. Honest, truthful music from the heart. That is how I describe it.
