An Open Letter to the Aloha Music Camp ‘Ohana
After more than ten wonderful years, recent developments have made it impossible for me to continue in my association with the Beamer Family and the Aloha Music Camps.
The Mohala Hou Foundation has expressed their interest in continuing to present the Camps, beginning with June 2011. We are working to make this transition as seamless as possible. There may be a few bumps in the road; for this I ask you to please be patient. In the meantime, direct all questions or inquiries to Kaliko Beamer-Trapp, President, Mohala Hou Foundation. www.mohalahou.org
Annie and I are saddened by this sudden and unexpected turn of events, but we wish the Beamer Family and the Mohala Hou Foundation much success in the future.
We will miss the joy of watching you wrestle with new hula moves, navigate intricate ki ho‘alu fingerings, or wrap your tongues around ancient oli. We will miss hearing the wonderful concerts under the stars, participating in the late night kanikapila, and watching the honu bask in the sun.
Most of all we will miss the many friends we have made along the way.
May you always know the true meaning of aloha.

| Oh dear. While I've not experienced the joy of participating in these or any other music camps, I know that participants greatly appreciated all your work these many years. I hope you will be able to maintain the dozens of wonderful relationships you have developed over time, with both students and teachers. |

Annie and Mark,
It was a pleasure attending camps and meeting you two. Appreciated you playing bass with me and my brother at the last camp we attended. Continue success and maybe paths will cross again. |

Dear Mark and Annie,
I am astonished by this news and very sad. I know how hard you and Annie worked all these years to make Aloha Music Camp so wonderful for all of us campers. Mahalo nui loa to you both for all that you have done and we will miss you so VERY much.

Not knowing any of the circumstances here, but having enjoyed a few Aloha Music Camps in the past, I would like to thank Mark (and the Beamer 'Ohana) for some wonderful experiences and memories.
And I also wish Mark and Annie much success and personal reward in any future endeavors.

• three camps that are among my fondest memories
• helping me learn the true nature of aloha
• inspiring me musically
• making me feel a part of the ohana
• being an example of “right livelihood”
• watching over me play in the rocky turbulence at Kaupoa, and
• correct pronunciation of Humuhumu nukunuku apua’a”

Oh, Mark and Annie,
What sad news!
I will always remember the very first AMC at Kalani Honua, when I came all alone, scared and bewildered, knowing a total of 5 ukulele chords... How sweet everyone was.
What a blast those workshops were, kind of wild out there in never-never land, far away from civilization, then over to Molokai where every day was a wildlife wonder (in many ways!), finally to Keahou, where it was more formal and orderly. Quite a morphing of camps.
Thanks for the many, many, unforgettable memories. I do hope I'll see you in Mendocino for Lark Camp, though. Some things should never change.

Jan & I are sorry to hear this news. So many questions, so many possible answers. No way to draw a reliable conclusion.
So we'll just leave at letting you know that we appreciate all the hard work you put into the AMC and the aloha you shared with all us campers, that we wish you well in everything, and that we will miss seeing you.
If you ever find yourself in the general DC-Baltimore-Philadelphia area, feel free to look us up. You have our contact information. Someday when we're retired, we hope to travel the west and with luck we'll stumble across you.

| Aue! It looks like I just sneaked into camp under the wire! Since we are friends, I don't despair of ever seeing you again, but I know how highly others who have attended Aloha Camp repsect and adore you guys. If it wasn't for you and Alan prodding me, I would not have gone. With that - see ya on Maui at the KBH, yeah? And remember - there's a spot for both you and/or Annie if you want to come to Folklife. |

We would also like to add our thanks and appreciation to you and Annie for all your work and contributions to AMC. Remember removing the kiawe thorn from my foot at our first camp at Moloka'i ? Our best to both of you, you will be missed at AMC. Hope to see you elsewhere.

Cynthia and I find this somewhat unbelievable. Music camp without Mark and Annie? The two who have put so much time and work into making things run smoothly? Na paniolo o popoki (the cat herders)? You, Annie, always had dry witticisms to share and Mark always was supportive and encouraging, even to players like me without any musical talent at all. We hope to find a way to continue to have you in our lives.

It's the Henry Kalaialhoa Allen Steel Guitar Festival at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel (KBH) April 28 - May1, a festival by, for and with Hawaiian steelers. It's a great event, if you play Hawaiian steel guitar. Participants get to jam with the invited talent and to play with them at their concerts. |

Argh,
I know I should be grateful for the career and current job I have, but sometimes it ties me down when I'd rather go out and play somewhere.
On the other hand, it does pay the bills! 
As with Aloha Camp, I just couldn't get away for several reasons, and I so regret being a responsible adult trying to meet deadlines!
