Many of you may have heard about Ulukau Hawaiian Electronic Library. It is available at www.nupepa.org. At the Ulukau website, there is a collection of historic Hawaiian-language newspapers published between 1834 and 1948. The newspaper images can be retrieved by word search, title, or date. They are in the Hawaiian language.
There is also a Facebook page called "Ho`olaupa`i: Hawaiian Newspaper Resource". If you "like" that page on Facebook, you will find images of newspaper pages as they were and then in the description there will be a summation in English of what the page was about. Here is their mission statement: It is about time that Hawaiian History includes Hawaiians and all those writing in the Hawaiian Language Newspaper of the times (1834 - 1948). We work to bring new life to the words spoken by every man, woman, and child who thought their words were important enough to share with all of Hawaii (and beyond) through the Newspapers. They are just as important today as they were back then—maybe even more so.
