Frank, this would be a great song to try getting away from tabs. The melody is pretty straightforward, the chords are few and obvious.

Can you do a vamp from the first position D7 to the G at the fifth fret? Can you do one from the 12th fret down to the fifth? If so, you're about half-way home. Instead of getting eye strain figuring out what a tab sheet is trying to tell you, spend the time listening to the song and singing/humming along.

Then hum the melody - it starts off repeating one note several times, the G at the fifth fret. Then it jumps up to the G at 7-8-9 and walks back down to the fifth. Then a D7 at 5-7-7, or play any vamp, back to the G, followed by a G7 at 2-mute-3. A barre at the fifth is the C, and climb back up to the 7-8-9 G, then end up with a vamp from 10 down to 5, top it off with a vamp from 12 to 5.

Now, isn't that easier and more fun than trying to figure out a tab?

Eh, Frank, remember that you learned language by ear, identify songs and tunes you like by ear, and communicate in conversation mostly by ear.

I have trouble with my hearing and cognition so I realy value having some sort of written guide myself. Not all of us are so good at learning everythign by ear or retaining things.

here is a guidesheet I foud of the song. best of luck

Psst, Frank, there is a tab with lyrics of this song (Gabby's version)in "Hawaiian Slack Key: A Lifetime of Study", a book by taropatch member Peter Madeiros. This is a great book and it has lots of songs and lots of tunings. There is a thread about it on here somewhere. Peter's website is: slackkeybypetermed.com.
