For the past three years I have been keeping a Monterey Bay Area Hawaiian Events email list to try and keep people informed about Hawaiian Music, Hula and cultural events taking place in our area of California. We are very blessed to have lots of local Hawaiian music talent, local Hula Halau and very frequent visiting performers from The Islands.

I started doing this because I was disappointed in the turnout for a concert being put on by a performer who I thought deserved a sell out crowd, but instead the theater was two thirds empty. I just figured that the word wasn't being spread enough to fill more seats. I thought that an email list with regular announcements could possibly help.

My list has grown to well over 200 names. I try and spread the word about all visiting performers regardless of who they are, who the promoter is, or at what venue they are performing. If it's a Hawaiian event, I try to get out the word, simply to put more butts in the seats. I figure the only way these wonderful performers are going to keep coming back is if the crowds are big enough to reward them for their efforts. I don't want to have to buy a ticket to Hawai'i to see my favorite performers. I want them to keep coming here.

Now I am launching a new endeavor. A blog called "Monterey Bay Area Hawaiian Events". www.montereybayareahawaiianevents.com

If you have any interest in seeing what is going on concerning Hawaiian Events in our little slice of heaven, bookmark it and check it frequently. It will be a constant "work in progress", as I learn more about blogging and as Hawaiian events come and go.

"The music of the Hawaiians, the most fascinating in the world, is still in my ears and
haunts me sleeping and waking."
Mark Twain
