If you removed the thread primarily because you felt it was not adhering to the site policies or the spirit of aloha, that is entirely understandable. I just hate this feeling I have that you were threatened into taking it down.
I also found the post interesting and informative, so was very reluctant to remove the post. There were no legal threats made against me. I felt that the posts entered territory where my slack key heroes may sue each other. When it reached that point, I decided to remove it.

This whole issue just made me sad. I know, as lots of us do, these guys and it saddens me to think of them being in this kind of a situation. It has cast a strange shadow on the music.

"There were no legal threats made against me."

I am very glad to hear this. In that case, I fully support your decision to remove the thread. As I said, it is entirely understandable.

To me it seems like it has very little to do with music and very much to do with business at this point... hence the other thread.

A while back I was asked to help organize a Slack Key Contest at a local microbrewery in conjunction with some Hawaiian entertainment. I told the organizer that that wouldn't be really possible, as some play this tuning, others favor another, some play with 2 fingers, some 3, some 4, some like steel string guitars, some electric, some classical. It would be difficult to judge with so much individuality. I told the guy that I learned slack key because of friendship and generosity, not competition. Competition does have its place for some, but not all. Jus' press.

A slack key festival would have been more in the character of the art and the culture, or so it seems to me at least. One of the most fun things about the festivals is the various artists supporting and enjoying each other.
