Just got Richard Ho'opi'i 's "Ululani,"
Lovers of a more traditional style should have this high on their "must buy" lists. Excellent arrangements, great "hula" grooves, Richard's voice is filled with soul, Led Kapaana plays back up guitar, Bobby Ingano on steel, Chris Kamaka on bass. How can you go wrong?
Most of the arrangements are clear enough so you can use them as "source" material for your own slack key playing.

Wow, what a voice! (Reminds me a little of Aaron Neville.)

If I remember correctly, and that is getting somewhat problematic, this recording is Richard's first solo recording after his brother passed away.

Ah man, I didn't even know his brother passed away.
There's was some of the first Hawai`ian music I heard and fell in love with.
Glad Richard is carrying-on.
Aloha Oe Sol.

No, no, no -- Richard's brother has _not_ passed away. Solomon has suffered a series of debilitating strokes over the past couple of years and is no longer able to strum, but Richard assures me Solomon still sings regularly at church...and that's a joy!

Mahalo, Aunty

Thanks aunty maria for clearing up about "bruddah" Sol.
Just played with Richard in a concert, and he said, Sol
was in the hospital, He's on the dialyses machine, so he
goes to the hospital alot.

He stills sings gospel music in church, when his health permits. They were truely in a class of there own.

Thanks also from me for posting this. I also passed the info on to my "source" so the rumor doesn;t get spread further.

To quote Mark Twain: "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."
