I noticed that at this year's 2003 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, Keola Beamer's album "Soliloquy, Ka Leo O Loko" was nominated for a number of awards but not selected. So, seeing as how this is the magical beautiful Mana-packed album that grabbed me and pulled me into Hawaiian culture, I have given the following awards from me (Mo) to Keola for Soliloquy: The 2003 Mo Hokulele Awards for: Best Album, Best Album Cover, Best Instrumental Album, Best Liner Notes (as they include the tunings), and Best Mixing. I don't have any really great trophies to give Keola, but I can come up with some yellow stars made out of construction paper, with no lack of Aloha. My Mom used to call this a "Consolation Prize" when I was a little kid. That basically meant some other kid won, and I was all bent out of shape. So one time I got these beautiful pink iridescent beads strung together for a lei nani, but the string broke, and the beads went all over the floor of the social hall (our rumpus room) and I never stopped crying. Don't cry, Keola. We all love Soliloquy.

Me ke aloha,
Maulena

We love Soliloquy too!

And... we gave a copy to a guitar friend of ours who plays blues and ragtime, (no slack key, though we keep encouraging him to cross over) and guess what: he told us he now drives around listening to Soliloquy in his car all the time.

Mahalo e Keola!

Ditto, and I've given away several copies of Soliloquy as well. Maybe we can send Keola a t-shirt once we finalize on our logo and make him an honorary member of TaroPatch.net!

My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can.

Good idea Craig, but I would also add Ozzie and George to that. They have both been really helpful and supportive, even though not posting.
