Slack Key Guitar (Ki Ho`alu) Workshop with Mark Nelson

Whether you are new to the joyous sounds of Hawaiian slack key guitar or you are looking to expand your repertoire and technique, don't miss this class. Mark Nelson, co-author of "Learn to Play Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar" presents a workshop on Saturday , Nov 22 fromĀ 2:00 to 4:00 at Momilani's Island Traditions, OCEANSIDE. The workshop will cover several tunings, including C Wahine (Keola's C), Drop C and F Wahine, and features hands-on demonstrations and tips on improving tone, using chords effectively in open tunings, developing smooth connections between notes, and finding your personal style.

The Honolulu Star Bulletin says "Nelson is a musician who possesses that rare combination of insight and talent necessary to successfully transcend conventional concepts of genre and culture." He has studied and performed with several noted Hawaiian slack key artists, and taught slack key at workshops and music camps on the mainland and in Hawai`i. Mark's most recent CD, The Water is Wide, features classic Hawaiian slack key standards and Mark's highly personal approach in slack key guitar. http://www.mark-o.com
