It's that time of year again. I looked at my hydrometer and the humidity was 38%. I use a planet waves in one of my guitar cases and read a lot about guitar care. Rarely do I read much about `ukulele care.

The humidifier products for guitars seem too big for my `ukuleles. What are people out there using?

I use a very simple humidifier for our instruments. It's a violin humidifier sold by Grover and consists of a rubber tube with holes along it's length and a sponge inside. A simple humidity indicating card comes with it. The tube is dipped in water and shaken dry, then inserted in the sound hole or some other portion of the case. Simple and it seems to work well enough if buyers bother to use it...;) I bought mine through Bob Gleason
Anyone ever try one of these? I am going to email Bob to check pricing.

An ocean breeze!

My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can.

Crossed fingers; it's usually not an issue here. If it were, it happens now and then, I've thought of moving the guitars and ukes into a bathroom. I have one humidifier, came with the guitar, that I've never used.

Along with my bathroom idea which is impractical unless like me you live in a house that has grown too big for one person, is one I've read of - keep a closet humidified with a bucket of water. Or get a room humidifier.

You can get one of these "tube type" humidifiers at most music stores. It's called a "dampit".

Just an update since my procrastrination and low humidity (about 30%) is finally coming to a head.

I contacted Grover and the violin humidifier that Kawika Hurd uses is number 5460 which retails for $7.95. They are made of soft latex that should be harmless to all instrument finishes.

Grover does not sell direct so I need to check stores locally. Otherwise, Bob Gleason (www.pegasusguitars.com) can supply them plus shipping. Under his advice, check locally first to save shipping but he is happy to help us mainlanders.

And Dusty, I didn't post a reply but that is some beautiful koa. If I don't get the grover humidifier, I'll get a dampit. Or maybe one of each.
