Hello:
I recently picked up a soprano pineapple ukulele. As a beginning player, I need clarification of a few things. The first is string set-up and diameter. Being only used to guitars, I was surprised that the widest strings were in the middle (3 and 2) and the thinnest were on the outside (4 and 1). My ukulele came with GHS Black Hawaiian Strings. One of the reasons this concerns me is that I want to set-up the ukulele for a left-handed player. Any advice on strings and changing them to a leftie is appreciated. Also, as a beginner, I suppose a digital tuner would be helpful?

Kawika Hurd (master `ukulele luthier) in Hilo probably has more info than most of us can even begin to understand on his website. Check these links which you might find helpful. You should be able to just "flip" the strings so you can play lefty. If you're tuning to g(4th), C(3rd), E(2nd), A(1st), you mentioned that the 2nd and 3rd string being the largest, there should not be any adjustment needed at the nut.
Welcome and good luck! |

Thanks, Andy!
I've been to the sites you listed, very informative. I also tracked down the specifications on my strings. I've listed them below to help other novice players who might have the same confusion I did. Now it's time for me to swith the strings, tune up, and start strumming!
