Wow! That's an amazing work of art. I'd be afraid to even play it! I have a friend who builds harp guitars and mandolins, and they produce interesting sounds. What is the purpose of a harp ukulele even when there are no strings on the arm of the harp? Jesse Tinsley Ukin' it up in Idaho
Jesse, the harp arm is supposed to provide greater "resonance" and depth of tone. I'm inclined to think it does. That and I think it looks cool. It would be interesting to do a side-by side comparison with a tenor of similar materials.
We didn't add any harp strings, as Chris Knutsen's smaller instruments didn't have them, most likely because they would get in the way of any serious strumming (I rigged up a test on another uke and ran into that problem).
