Aloha all, as I packed for an overnight kanikapila at Melinda Wing's house in La Honda (California), I felt like a little kid getting ready for a really cool sleepover. There were six of us ladies, and we had such a good time, that I hope we do more of these. We got together, had dinner, broke out the ukes, and played and sang and talked late into the night. (Well, Peter Wing was in Hawaii at George's song-writing workshop, and so we had the house to ourselves!)
I won't mention the name of one wonderful lady who had an exciting occurrence when her vehicle got stuck in the mud and AAA had to come out with a tow truck. Then there were two of us who blocked a neighbor's driveway and had to run out in our pajamas and slippers in the morning to move our cars. I think we scared the neighbor, especially when it looked like I might drive my truck into the ditch. 
The thing I noticed was that we did not have to "compete" with the big boys and their big guitars. And so we all felt very comfortable and low-key, and there was a nice camaraderie between us. Thanks to Melinda for hosting such a special event. Makes me want to add on several bedrooms so I too can have friends stay overnight.
