Howdy!
I'm just curious because it seems most Slack Key is done on wood-bodied guitars and the reso's are used for slide work. In fact, whenever I take my reso out, I'm usually asked, "oh, so you play slide?"
Welll, I don't. I like the reso because I don't use picks or my fingernails, just the pads of my fingers. I fought a losing battle to volume (when playing w/ friends or outside) for years before switching to the resonator, and I've never looked back. I did make some modifications to the guitar (new cone, made my own bridge) and it sounds surprisingly warm for an all-brass/chrome guitar. LOUD too.
Anyways, I was just curious if anyone out there used one of these tanks for Slack Key. Also, if you're having problems being drowned out by other players/beach noise/etc...you might want to give one a try!

Danimal,
Greetings. Hell yes, National Style O for me. Often use it for slack key. I CAN drown out any other player with it!!
All hail the power of brass!

Have either of you guys ever recorded yourself playing slack key on a reso? I'd be interested in hearing how it sounds. |
Craig My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can. |
