I just picked up and listened to "Patriotic Slack Key."
This is a CD I was going to skip cause the patriotic stuff can be a bit embarrassing - but a friend said to definitely pick it up. I'm glad I did. Very quality job and very interesting to here those old songs done in a fairly main line s.k. approach. I think it's really worth our support of this CD.

The full title is "Patriotic Slack Key and Steel". Hard to find online at the moment but you can listen to samples and order here:

"...hard to find online"? Not if you know where to look. I'm surprised that Tower Records handles this only as a special order; it's widely available from retailers here in Hawai`i and online.

The first time I played this on-air, I was inundated with calls -- it's a glorious, flag-waving patriotic CD!

And for those of us who aren't prone to waving flags, it is a very well done and very interesting rendition of marches and other patriotic songs into well done slack key.

(NOTE: I'm not trying to get political with my comments on flag waving. Waving flags doesn't sit well emotionally with me cause I know how easily the emotions of masses can be manipulated. I personally prefer quiet and thoughtful patriotism, with a willingness to act when necessary. I'm just trying to point out that you don't have to get this music on that level to appreciate it.)

Mele.com was the first place I looked...a search for "patriotic slack key" doesn't turn up anything! And my apologies but I appear to have ordered the last in stock copy from Tower.
