Can anyone recommend replacement tuning pegs for a uke?

The friction pegs are slipping, wondering if there's something that stays put better.

Would geared tuners change sound -- due to weight for example?

Instrument is an Akulele.

thnx

Aloha cw,

I have found that the geared tuners are much better. Open or closed, they are more precise and hold intune better. In my experience (guitar), weight (mass) is usually a good thing as it contributes to sustain, yes it can change the tone, but usually always for the better. All in all I would recommend grovers or I believe that ghoto (spelling) makes some too.

Aloha CW, Before you put out for new tuners you might want to make sure that they are properly tightened. Most friction tuners have a screw on the knob that is not just for taking them on and off but also for keeping them snug so they won't slip. I've had old tuners that because of wear, would slip no matter what. I have never experienced new tuners, even cheap ones that would not stay snug if you tightened them up with the tension screw on the knob.
Don't frett it's a small problem either way.
Aloha, John G.
