Aloha! My name is mike hedrick and I am a hoalie[sp?] that lived on Oahu in Kialua from 1970- 1975. I was like 10 to 15 but it was one of the best times of my life. I moved to Washington DC [actually Northern VA] where I became a pretty good local rock guitarist and singer having my own bands and acting a fool with long hair and spandex. hahaha!
I've always told my beautiful wife Michele about Hawaii and the people that live there as well as the art and music.
The debut Jack Johnson CD really brought me and my heart back to the islands so I started doing some searching on local musics and names of old friends and here I landed.
The music sounds great and I could image the fun of your "porch jams" as we call them here on the east coast.
NOTE: Surf sucks here on the East coast so I had to switch to boogie boarding to get good rides. Some good surf in Nags Head, NC but not much.
Mo-U Ah-U [made up word my brothers and I say meaning "Ride well, don't die"]

You guys have to be kidding me? You guys can make up and or play stuff like this? Wow. ~sets my guitar pick at your feet, shuts up and just listens.
I followed a few links from some of you and listened to this "style" and was blown away. Man you guys [and ladies] have found and are promoting a very cool sound and style and playing it with much skill.
I think I'll shut up and listen and lurk for a bit.
THANKS! and Mahalo! peace mike <>< |

Thanks for the welcome Craig and Raymond, I love music and those who find enjoyment and bring enjoyment by playing and creating it. I've sat and listened to some of the clips I've found over and over trying to noodle it out in my head what is going on and I love the way the music makes you feel. I can see how once someone might learn this style how they could enjoy creating with it.
I'm busy getting ready for a solo gig at the end of the month and then my band kicking off this years shows next month but will try and find some time to pick up this style and see what I might come up with. I'm a red blooded rock and roller in the classsic, modern, southern styles and have performed with bands such as Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Outlaws, Billy Preston, John Cafferty and many many more. My band is called NAKED HOUSE meaning the "Earth is Unprotected".
Again thanks and I will continue to read and listen and learn.

Welcome Mike. Thanks for introducing yourself.
That's not what this is all about. No need to sit back and lurk. Post away. |
