I've written a little instrumental piece and I've been having fun with names, but I could sure use some help to avoid embarrassing myself with my complete lack of knowledge of the Hawaiian language.
The first name I used was "Kahana Waltz" because it's in 3/4 (duh) and because we spent a month on Maui at Kahana and it's such a sweet memory. But then I started thinking that I was long overdue in honoring my sweet sweetie, who introduced me to Hawaii and this music, so I changed the name to "Ku`u Lina" and I've been using that name for a few months.
Lately I've thought that this name is not sufficiently poetic, and the other evening our early hot spell was broken by a charming cool breeze blowing in from the Pacific. I realized that the feeling of comfort and ease, the big smile and inner pleasure that came with the breeze was very similar to the feelings inspired by my sweet Lynn, and decided that the name of the tune should be "Cool Breeze in Our House." Looking up the words was easy enough, but I have no idea how they should be combined into a phrase. My own clumsy attempt results in "Ahe `Olu`olu i Kauhale."
Anyone have comments or advice? I'd certainly appreciate any input.

Thanks Fran. As for the workshop, it was good but lacking in material. Patrick and Kawika went over the various scales and that was it...the workshop lasted a little less than an hour. I (and a couple of the other attendees I spoke with) really would have liked to spend some more time on what to do with the scales and how to incorporate them into our playing and composing. As it was we left the workshop saying, "well that was cool but what do we do with it?"
However, we did get to hang with Kawika, Mike, and Patrick for a while before and after the workshop so all in all it was money well spent. Plus there were only six of us so I'm sure it was barely worth it for the artists from a financial standpoint. |

I was disappointed too with less than an hour for an advertised 3 hour workshop. |

OK here goes....
I like the word "olu'olu" because it has all the right meanings for
your desired title. I am reminded of the song:
"Maika'i Kamakani o' Kohala" (good are the winds of Kohala)
However "Kauhale" traditionally meant a group of homes with separate
male and female dwellings. (I don't think you meant this).
How about:
Olu'olu Kamakani O' Hale Au (congenial are the winds of my house)
Hmmm...
(the hidden meaning could refer to a different kind of wind)
You probably want "the winds around my house" rather than
"the winds of my house"
Well - this was a stab at it anyway...

Lawrence, thanks for your ideas. I feel kinda goofy trying to be poetic in a language I know nothing about, but I give myself plenty of room for goofy.
I played the tune at the Freight open mic tonight and used the previous title.
