Saw an inquiry about Steven Hall buried deep in another topic...

Steve had a stroke 3-4 years ago, but is on the road to recovery. Not playing music, but doing well with his rehabilitation.

I used to see Stephen Hall in the early 80s in Honolulu at a in restaurant in Waikiki named Banyan Gardens where I worked many years ago. He was playing in Moe Keale's band at the time, with Jeff Rasmussen on bass. He was an incredibly nice guy as well as a great guitarist. Here's hoping he can return to playing soon. Banyan Gardens house band was a band led by Mike Kaawa, called Par 3. As well as Mike on guitar, they had an awesome left-handed guitarist named Daryl Gonzales.I still listen to a cassette they recorded in the mid 80s (yes it still plays). Mahalo for dredging up some great musical memories Auntie.

In 2000, Steve -- along with Danny Akaka, George Kuo, and Martin Pahinui -- performed at a private party in the islands. The event was recorded for posterity, and following Steve's stroke a few copies were pressed and sold as a fundraiser (to defray his medical expenses).

These could only be purchased from George Kuo, and I'm not sure if he has any left -- but it's a great CD, supporting a worthy cause:

And George's email address is:

Shoots...hit "post" too soon!

Michael -- Daryl lives on Kaua`i, and we get to see him perform every Friday night at the Hanalei Bay Resort (4-6p.m.). What an awesome guitarist! He also sits in with Kainani Kahaunaele when her group performs (and was on her album, as well). She's a strong contender for multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards this year, and since "new face" nominees are often asked to perform for that event, Daryl might be on stage for that also.

Don't know who Kainani is?:

Before emailing George Kuo, I think Patrick Landeza has copies of Waialea Jammin'. Check this link for more info on the CD and Patrick's contact info.

Waialea Jammin' - 2 Cd set

Still got 'em Patrick?
