I may be taking a very short trip to San Diego area and want to hit the best guitar shops, say within about a 50 mile radius, so far ive got Buffalo Bros on the itinerary, any others with good acoustic selections? Thanks!

Hi, guys. New member here from San Diego.

There is no longer a Guitar Center on El Cajon Blvd. Also, House of Strings (which is run by some absolutely wonderful folks) is moving to University Ave. Unfortunately I don't have their new address.

Nearly 20 years ago I used to be the manager of Guitar Trader. It's changed a lot but still has some of the best prices in town.

McCabe's is up in LA, but by all means visit if you get the chance. I second Mark's comment re Shade Tree. I love that store!! And it's quite a bit closer to San Diego than McCabes.

hi craig! welcome to our `ohana! and, you should join us at the SoCal Slack Key society meetings. the next one is 12 may, up at the M3 coffeehouse in Oceanside.

in the "judge a guitar store by their tolerance of you retuning and playing their guitars" combined with "lack of people trying to impress by playing 'staircase to heaven'", McCabes is awesome and Buff Bros is a short step behind. shade tree is rather li`ili`i but they folks are very nice.

aloha, keith

Shade Tree is nice and up the freeway a bit on 7th Street in Long Beach is World of Strings. They have a website but it does not identify specific guitars, only lines of the many types of string instruments they carry. Good people and they do a lot of work on site.

Actually, Shade Tree is in the process of a move, so they have no showroom at the present. From what I gather, they want to spend more time on the repair end of the business. According to their website, http://www.shadetreeguitars.com/ they still have inventory. Maybe they are going into mail order?
