In the instructional video with Kaapana and Brozman, does anybody know what type of guitar Kaapana is playing; I'm pretty sure it's a Martin, but I was curious as to model type and cost. Any experts out there that can clue me in...Tx

It looks like an MC-28 to me. This was a new model introduced in the 80s, based on the archtop conversions being done by Jon Lundberg and Mark Silber. Those guys took apart Martin archtops and rebuilt them as flattops, in order to get a small bodied guitar with the long dreadnaught scale. Martin saw their success and created the M body size and shape, and delivered several different trim levels, all with the oval soundhole.
These guitars are not made today. Today's 0000 size is similar in shape but doesn't have the oval soundhole. The OM model would be another good alternative. These cost anywhere from $1000 to $20000 depending on woods and trim level.
Here's a link to a used MC-28 with the dealer asking $1700 - http://www.gbase.com/gearlist/guitar_picture.asp?guitar=535130

Another Martin question... I saw Keoki Kahumoku the other night and he played what looked like a older steel string Martin with a slotted peghead and a wide fretboard. Anyone know what that was? Jesse Tinsley |

Yea, i was wondering about Keoki's kika also, possibly a 12 fretter?, had a funny looking pickguard, looks like he had some autographs on the top as well. He sure played the dickens outta that thing though!I was under the impression that Leds was a Santa Cruz but im probably wrong. Seems i recall hearing Santa Cruz were making a Kaapana signature guitar, but ive never heard anything else about it. |

He (Keoki) told me it was a copy of an old Martin, but he got called to the stage before he could tell me who made it. I forgot about it afterward. |

Keoki told me it was a Yairi, but he said it wasn't the "Alvarez Yairi". I don't know what that means. It is a Martin copy, but an inexpensive one. It has plywood back and sides (his words). I think he did some magic with the electrics, though. He said he got it when he broke the electrics setup on his RainSong. |
