Talofa~!
I'm new to this site, just randomly stumbled upon it and am glad to see that there is something new out there as far as forums go on polynesian music--but what is with the mystery?
I am going to sound ignorant cuz I am but could an avid user explain what taro-patch is all about? I have gathered that it is tuned down ukulele. Graphic on homepage suggest that it is something one does to a tenor or concert and the soprano one is there just to entice potential converts.
It worked, can i slack one of my sopranos?
Someone please take the time to cut and patch up a Taro-tutotarototalorario
I could google-but am having too much fun on this site and would only get this as a first hit anyway
Thanks!!!

Responding to my own post...
Click on the button that says "LEARN" and find out what happens...
you are all playing guitars!!!
I suppose I could just tune my ukulele to the top strings in any of those tunings on that page and be playing slack key ukulele if I strum along to the chords of whatever song--
How to hack a slack ukulele--obviously I need some help.
Searching for the appropriate emoticon. . .

Some of us play ukes as well - you can tune down the top string from A to G, and you've got a taropatch uke. Except it's not a taropatch, which is an 8-stringed ukulele. But it is in taropatch tuning (also known as open G to us mainlanders). |

Aloha,
I don't know much about playing ukulele in taropatch, but I'd seen this book for sale,
"How to Play Slack Key Ukulele" 22 pages. ISBN: 0-917822-17X. Copyright 1986.
Go to the bottom of the page at http://www.ukulelebooksbyheeday.com/

I have Heeday's "How to Play Slack Key Ukulele" and it is good. He writes clearly and once you buy into his system of explication (graphics of tapping feet, etc.)you will benefit. He also answered my questions about transposing his ideas to a baritone uke with a gracious and very thorough note. Sandy |

He also has an audio tape available to accompany the book. |
Craig My goal is to be able to play as well as people think I can. |

This is pretty much out of context, but I met a guy in New Jersey about 10 years ago while I was browsing in a guitar shop. Had a uke in a case with enough travel stickers on it to cover the whole case at least twice. I forget his real name, but his stage moniker was and still is, to my mind, one of the best ever; Cool Hand Uke! Gotta love it |
