This is your brain:
This is your brain on Maui:
This is your brain after Slack Key Workshop on Maui

I had the greatest time meeting so many of you at George's Workshop. I am sure many of you have memories that will
carry you through the next 12 months... I sure do, and I have
all that homework that Bob Brozman gave me to work on!

Shirley and I came ill prepared in the camera and video department. We shot up 2 hours of tape in the first 24 hours, and so didn't get any video of the Slack Key Festival! If any of you were able to capture the performance, and can make a copy... I would gladly pay for your efforts!

Other performances that I wish I had a copy of:
1) Gordon doing his hot fiddle number on "Goodby Joe..."
2) Bob Brozman playing his tribute to Tau Moe
3) Michael and Sterling and helping me out on "Little Grass Shack"
4) My rendition of "Kona Hotel" (First time I ever sang it in public!)

Well, I guess I better start practicing. I only have 12 months 'till we hana hou!

Aloha,
-Konabob

On the Maui News today, front page, are three colored pictures - one with our own Don Kaulia, George Kahumoku, and Julie Hendricks dancing the Hula with the group. Her name was even mentioned as part of George' Slack Key group.

The Taropatch ohana scored again!!!!!

Konabob - it was so great to see you and hear you play. Kona Hotel is awesome.

Hey Ed - you're out there! Sorry to have missed you this trip. How are you? I saw the paper and bought an extra copy to give to Julie in case she hadn't seen it.

Hi Andy,
It was really fine to see you again too. I hope it happens next year, and that we get some quality playing time together! I am proudly displaying my TaroPatch Net button on my Walkingstick gig bag!

Maui--Wowie!
Too many blessings to list here...the rains, the sun, and music! Yea, Yea.
But the real blessings are the friends and time shared!

Aloha Andy,

I'm sorry I missed your company too. Actually I missed the whole show! I planned on going to the festival at 4 pm but a phone call changed all that. By the time I was done with some business it was 6:30 PM.

Good thing I had a chance to jam with some of our Ohana at the Waihee church last Saturday - Lawrence & Cynthia, Dusty and Sheila, Jerry & Dianne, Ed & Helen, and Dan Sythe. Also met and had a short chat with Larry and Julie at Costco. Well, next year!

See how many slack key masters you can identify in the mix...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jam-da-island
Konabob's rip off of Hank Williams’ Jambalaya

Goodbye Joe, me gotta go, over to Hilo
Should be back on Kona side about two or three oh
And by sunset you can bet I'm gonna be oh
Pickin’ music underneath an old palm tree oh

Two scoops rice, mighty nice wid da lomi salmon
Huli chicken and a case of beer and we be jammin’.
Friends come round to hear the sound, we see em smilin'
Son of a gun, gonna have good fun on the island.

By six o'clock, the whole damn beach is buzzin'
Everybody bring your tutu and you cousin.
If you got an old guitar why don't you bring it.
And if you don't know the song, you'll have to wing it.

Two scoops...

See if aunty will get up and do a hula
While you’re up, bring me something from the coolah.
Now the sun is going down and the moon is bright
And da music be twice as good as it was last night.

Two scoops rice, mighty nice wid da lomi salmon
Huli chicken and a case of beer and we be jammin’.
Friends come round to hear the sound, we see em smilin'
Son of a gun, gonna have good fun on the island...

After looking at the pictures posted on kahumoku.com, and putting order into my own photos, I have to send a huge ALOHA to George and Nancy. Without their efforts, we would not ever have been privileged to get a peek into the real Hawai'i, the very Hawai'i that eludes most visitors. The same goes for the Beamer Ohana and their Aloha Music Camp, which we sadly had to miss this year. What gifts they bestow upon us by letting us experience all these wonderful times, making memories and friendships that will last us a lifetime. And to all the exceptional instructors who were willing to share their talents with us, thank you so very, very much for your patience, and your warm aloha. Aah, chicken skin, I hope I don't start crying, I miss everyone so. Sniff

Julie

Good Maui Morning Keith! I was really hoping to cross paths with you and Susie during "Kanikajammapila Week Maui Style"Really missed you guys! The first thing I did when I arrived at the M.A.A.C.C. for the "Slack Key Festival", was to see if the two of you were there....But I remember when I spoke to you on the phone, you mentioned there was things to do at your place in Lahaina. And that Susie was getting her hands dirty?

"Susie! No baking?" . I had alot of fun with Aunty Cathe, and the rest of the TaroPatch Gang down at the "Blue Marlin". I especially enjoyed sharing my limited talent will all them. "Man! You Guys and Gals never cease to amaze me how all of you are such gifted "Kiho'alu Artists!" "YOU GUYS AND GALS RULE"

Keith....hope to jam with you soon ! Hey! Maybe when you get back to Maui, you, Ed Kalama, Kawika, me and Kevin can do the "Blue Marlin's Open Mic Night"! And everyone else who wants to join us!

Well....time to moi moi. The time right now is 3:18 Maui A.M..... But I had to Post here! See Ya when I see ya! A Hui Hou...Malama Pono....
