Aloha!

Got a pointer from some Aloha Music Camp folks that had talk story sessions going on ova hea! Hootah!

Born in St. Francis Hospital and hailing from Mayor Wright's Housing (Liliha Street side), I have been living in Hilo the past 5 years. Previous to Hilo I lived and worked in the SF Bay Area. Still living in the Bay Area are my mother (Ruth Farrish), my two bruddahz (Joe and Keoki Farrish) with their families. <sigh>

Mother's parents
My grandmother: Mary "Girlie" Kapohele Aikau from Hamoa, Maui
married my grandfather: William Moses Puha from Olowalu, Maui

I tryto play a 4-string "Sonny D" tenor
and a "Pegasus" 8-string 'ukulele.

I see some familiar names here and look forward to discussing all kine stuffs! Mahalo to the person that created this talk story forum.

Ke aloha no,

E Keith,

Mahalo nui ia 'oe i kau leo pumehana! I truly hope that I get invited to return next year. Each year is a learning experience for me too and a wonderful way to make new friends and keep in touch with old.

I am glad you enjoyed our "small" kine jam. We were having lots of fun and rarely do Kaliko and I get to sit back and relax by playing music together.

Ke aloha no,
Liko

E komo mai Bruddah Liko. Just thought I'd say howzit from the SF Bay Area. A few of us here; SilDaTrill, RodV and I, perform for an ohana-based performance group called, A Touch Of Polynesia, headed by Mili Aranda and Nani Antonio, both of whom dance for Kumu Michael Yamash*ta.

Aloha E, Liko. Your grandmother any relation to Eddie Aikau? I think he was from Maui. Welcome to Taro Patch! I hope you will share your mana`o with us, set us straight when we do or say soomething wrong, pat us on the back when we do something good, and wala`au. This is a good-hearted bunch of folks who all love Hawaiian music, culture and `aina.

Aloha Liko,

It's been a long time since we've seen you. Somewhere in the past, I think it was at Kalani Honua, the last year Keola had his workshop there. I remember you playing very well on a little soprano uke.

After that we kept missing Aloha Music Camp because we would be at George Kahumoku's camp on Maui. But every sunset we would gather at the seawall with our cocktails and toast you Moloka'i folks over the channel!

Hope you are well and happy, that life is good to you there in Hilo. Maybe this June we'll get the chance to come to AMC again.

I think with your vast storehouse of knowledge, you will be great contributor to all our rambling questions and such here on TaroPatch. Good to see you posting.

Aloha, Julie (and Larry, your oli student.)

Hey Julie!
When I was at AMC, Liko took beginning slack key. Needless to say, he did very well and led our class in Ka Manu at the ending student concert. So Liko, howzit going now?

OOOOHHH, I feel like such a dummy! Had I read the date on Liko's post I would have realized that it was an old post and he is not a newcomer....

Anyway, everybody: ignore what I said, moot points and all that.

No worries. Maybe we can all conjure up a return visit?

And yes, Liko will be teaching oli and more at the June Aloha Music Camp -- which does not conflict with George Kahumoku's Maui workshop.

Speaking of which: Given all the whining we heard in the past on this subject, how many people have signed up for both camps?

Well, I would be showing up for both Camps in June if I hadn't already signed up for February before the summer dates were announced. I pitched a bit of a fit when I found out, and I actually considered asking if I could switch my deposit to the June Camp, but I had two first-timers coming to the February Camp on my recommendation and I had promised them I would be there. However, I will be attending AMC in June next year, so if things could be arranged to permit consecutive Camps in 2008 as well, I would be quite pleased!
