Not that I can say a lot about ukes because I have only 13 of them, but I mostly reach for my Dennis Lake Po Mahina tenor. It stays in tune, has a pick-up, and last week I played it for an amplified gig. Check out www.pomahina.com. It always sounds great, and I'll surely be buying more from him. My hubby Larry often reaches for his Graziano which is a cutaway, it also keeps up very well.
I think with us it has to do with which instruments are readily playable. Who wants to come home after a really long day at work and bust out that uke, then still have to tune it and fuss with it...
Priorities.
