My wife and I are going to be on the Big Island from October 22 to 30 and then on Maui until our flight back here to frozen Pennsylvania on November 5. Does anyone have any suggestions about hearing some neat music while we're there? I've been checking calendars on various web sites and it looks like nobody's playing at all! That's just not fair.
Yeah! And give me a call while you are on the island Jamie! - 322-4714 or cell 345-2627. I can give you some good tips on where to go to listen or to play with some others. And don't forget Chris Yeaton! He is a great slacker! Aloha, -Konabob
I want to reiterate what others said in the Maui music discussion. You should definitely catch George Kahumoku's Slack Key series at the Ritz Carlton. George Kuo will be playing on Nov 2nd.
It's a great series - good performers, small venue, nicely paced, authentic slack key music. The ticket price might make you hesitate, but you should do it. It's worth it.
A great big thank you to all of you who got in touch on taropatch and directly with me for the ideas. I have a feeling we're going to hear a lot of music! (I'll try to give you a call when we arrive, Konabob - I like your website!) We leave tomorrow - as I spent this afternoon freezing in the rain watching my son play soccer, I think I'm really going to enjoy a couple of weeks in paradise!
Aloha Jamie, Not a musical event, but Halloween in Lahaina is billed as the Mardi Gras of the Pacific. They close down Front Street and the costumed people take over. Fun!! Aloha, >^..^<
