I wanna know why you're not telling people about the Hukilau show tonight? Wellll, since you won't ...

Tonight, Dec. 4, 2004, at the Hukilau in Palo Alto, CA, the one and only slack key star from the little island of Berkeley, Patrick Landeza will dazzle the assembled multitudes with his dancing fingers and mellifluous voice as he plays and sings ka mele o Hawai`i.

http://www.dahukilau.com/restaurants/pa.html , The Hukilau website, will tell you the place, and even show you a map. The music starts at 8 PM. The food is delicious island style, and they don't have their liquor license yet so the audience is quiet and respectful <grin>.

And from the sublime to the ridiculous, Patrick has invited his kanikapila students from the Hawaiian Music Institute (yes, we've been institutionalized) to get up and play some tunes, so who knows what manner of musical mayhem might manifest!

Speaking of ridiculous, sublime and musical mayhem, it was great fun playing at the Hulilau, not to mention the ono grinds. Thanks Fran for a solid performance and thanks Patrick for letting us get up there. Let's not forget a few cool songs from Bruddah Lawerence.

Mahalo,

Dave

GREAT IDEA!

Slack key open mic night at the P.A. Hukilau, say once
a Month or so, would be wonderfull. I might even be
able to get over my stage fright and play as well as
I know I can! Cynthia and I would show up every time,
since it is so close, even on a week night. But for
other folks, who have to drive further (Fran for
example), week day nites would be hard. Cynthia and I
are essentially unable to make it to weeknight events
north of Hayward or San Carlos because of work and
traffic.

And thanks again for the opportunity to play !

That was a fun evening. Thanks Patrick for letting my wife and daughter hula. They really enjoyed it. It sure was nice of the Hukilau to put up with us.

It'd be cool if you could get a slack key open mic going. I also live in Palo Alto so I'd make an effort to show up on a regular basis. Once a month seems like the right frequency.

Yeah, but at least the cardboard cutout didn't sing "Tiny Bubbles."

Patrick,

I know about 5 or 6 "slackers" who do not post much on
Taropatch (like Ed B. and Stacey M.) and who live very
close by (in P.A., Mountain View, Sunnyvale) and so
would be likely to show up for an open mic. I will
talk to some of them & get back.

Patrick,

Hayward on a Sunday would be OK with me, as long as it
did not go too late ("got too get behind the mule and
plow" in the morning). However, Pulelehua has uke
lessons on Sunday Afternoon so the timing would be kind
of critical. Lunch (noon to three) or dinner (seven to
ten) would work for both of us.

Are you still thinking of open-mic at some public venue
or more of a Kanikapila?
